Having just come out of what seems like a Game of Thrones style winter of 6 months, the last few days of warm weather seem to be a shock to the system. With cold nights and dark mornings disappearing into a distant memory, it’s time to combat the next problem when it comes to sleep. Those pesky warm nights that keep you tossing and turning as you try and fall asleep in the humid air of the British summer time.
Believe it or not, there’s plenty you can do at home to try and help keep you at a comfortable temperature throughout the night.
Keep the curtains closed in the day
It’s unlikely that you spend too much time in the bedroom throughout the day. Simply keeping your curtains closed through a warm summer day can keep the room a bit cooler by blocking out the sunlight that warms your room up throughout the day. This is particularly effective with blackout or thermal curtains and blinds. As well as keeping the heat in through the winter months, they do a great job of keeping the heat out in the summer too.
Get the right bedding
Sleeping with the right bedding can make a massive difference to how warm you get in bed. There is plenty of choice about when it comes to duvets, fillings and ben linen. If you don’t like poking your feet out of the end of the duvet to keep yourself cool, it’s a good idea to invest in a summer duvet. A 4.5 tog duvet will keep you much cooler through the night while still making you feel fully covered. Getting the right material is also crucial to keeping your bed feeling cooler. A light cotton duvet cover and pillows keep air moving around your bed and allows warm from the heat you generate in your sleep to escape easily.
Check your mattress
It’s no secret that the average lifespan of a good quality mattress is around 8-10 years. After that time, it’s time to start looking for a new one. As a mattress ages, the fillings inside compress and become denser. This ageing process stops the air inside circulating as easily and keeps the heat in more. If it’s time to get a new mattress, look for one that is designed to regulate your temperature through the night.
At Zommos, we’ve not only designed the perfect mattress for everyone in terms of firmness, we’ve also used some special fillings and materials in the cover to keep your body temperature regulated throughout the night.
